Enjoy a Holiday in Albufeira Portugal - Old Town Versus New Town

Beaches
The Albufeira Coastline arguably could be described as the best in the world. The twenty or so fine sandy beaches stretch the whole length of the area approximately sixteen miles, a lot of which have a backdrop of rugged cliffs. There are two loverly beaches
in the old town, Alburfeira beach and Fishermans beach. Both can be accessed by walking through the tunnel just off the square or by the lifts or stairs to the west. No need to go hungry as both beaches have loads of restaurants and bars to sample. The "Strip" has its own superb beach called Oura beach. You will find this little gem at the end of the "Strip"down the steep hill. Here you will be able to sample all manner of water sports from pedal boats for the children to parasailing for the adults. Once again there are plenty of places to eat and drink.

Shopping
If it's clothes shopping your after you need to head to the "Strip", not The old town. Here you will find an array of shops selling designer goods to suit any taste. If it's leather goods you're after or just souvenir type shops then stick to the "Strip".

Bars and Restaurants
Both have an abundance of Bars and Restaurants offering a vast array of different cuisines. This being Portugal they love their fish, so you must try their Sardines simply grilled and sprinkled with sea salt. Delicious. There is a particular favourite fish restaurant of mine accessed via the tunnel in the old town and situated on the right. Here you can choose the fish of your choice which is weighed and then cooked. Not cheap, but well worth the experience for a special evening.

Nightlife
If you are young and want to party the night away the Old Town has the bars but the "Strip has both bars and Nightclubs for your Holiday.
So which is the best? You've probably guessed I am slightly biased towards the old town and you'd be right. I am not the twenty one year old I used to be and prefer a quieter holiday these days. This can be found on the relaxed beach in the old town and the more sedate nightlife on the square. The "Strip" is the place for single people or families. The lively beach with it's water sports and the late night bars and nightclubs. To be honest you can have the best of both worlds, for about 6 Euros a Taxi will take you the short trip between the two, or there is a road train that runs quite frequently throughout the day.
